2 Wireless headset features you shouldn’t underestimate

Popular single connectivity desk phone wireless headsets such as Plantronics’ CS540 wireless headset, Jabra Pro’s 920 and Sennheiser’s D10 wireless headset all share common and useful features which help business professionals become happier and more productive in the workplace, such as dual wearing styles (convertible headset), noise cancelling microphone, DECT wireless frequency, and hearing protection,

Sometimes, however, its the obscure wireless headset features that can make a huge impact when deciding which brand and model to deploy.  As an example, one of the more overlooked feature is the time it takes to charge a battery.  If you are a regular wireless headset user, chances are that in more than one occasion, you have shown up at your desk only to discover that your wireless headset is out of power.  First you thought that it was broken but then after you soon  experience an  OMG moment – that you forgot to dock it on the charging base before leaving the office!

How long do you wait for a full charge?  According to available specifications, both the Plantronics CS540 and Jabra Pro 920 headset require three (3) hours charge time for a full battery charge to and yields up to 6 and 8 hours of talk time respectively in narrowband mode.  In contrast, the Sennheiser D10 headset only require one (1) hour of charge time to yield a talk time of up to 12 hours in narrowband mode.  Advantage Sennheiser D10 wireless headset.

If you can’t wait for a full charge, how long can you wait for an adequate level of battery charge?  Again, according to specifications, the Jabra Pro 920 headset require 45 minutes for a 50% battery charge while the Sennheiser D10 headset only require 20 minutes for a 50% battery charge.  Unfortunately, the fact sheet for the Plantronics CS540 wireless headset system did not indicate a quick charge feature.  Advantage Sennheiser D10 wireless headset.

Lastly, another ambiguous feature is the wireless headset’s warranty.  While Plantronics and Jabra offer a standard 1-year warranty with their respective headset offerings, Sennheiser counters with a standard 2-year warranty.  Knock on wood but how much does it cost to replace your  Plantronics or Jabra  headset if it malfunctions after the 1-year warranty?  Sennheiser’s industry-leading standard  2-year warranty provide tremendous value, potentially worth hundreds of dollars, considering the MSRP of each wireless headset model.   Advantage Sennheiser D10 wireless headset.

•    Plantronics CS540 wireless headset (#84693-01) US$319.95 MSRP
•    Jabra Pro 920 wireless headset (#920-65-508-105) US$271 MSRP and
•    Sennheiser D10 wireless headset (#506410) US$299.95 MSRP

The decision-making process for deciding which brand and model of wireless headset to deploy in the workplace does not usually begin with “how long does it take for the battery to charge?”  Based on the above-mentioned MSRP’s, if price is your first consideration then the Jabra Pro 920 wireless headset has the clear advantage.  Nevertheless, in case popularity, price and quality (not necessarily in that order) can’t help discern a clear choice, then maybe evaluating the unnoticed but noteworthy features may significantly contribute towards finalizing it.
